IUCN-Red-List: This species is widespread in most of southwestern Europe and northwestern Africa. It is more scattered in mainland Italy than elsewhere and is very rare in France. A progressive degradation of the habitat is obvious in many areas, due to over-irrigation and pollution in southern Europe. However, the species is not threatened in its North African range; it is not uncommon in poorly impacted areas such as mountain areas. Overall in the Mediterranean region, the species is Least Concern, but is perhaps more vulnerable to habitat degradation in the European part of its range.
