Ab 1950 wurden in Italien Agenten für Guerillaoperationen und Sabotage gegen Besatzertruppen des Warschauer Pakts ausgebildet. Dazu wurden europaweit geheime, illegale Waffendepots angelegt. Die Existenz der Untergrund-Armee wurde geheim gehalten und war nur einem kleinen Kreis von Regierungsmitgliedern bekannt. In den einzelnen Ländern wurde die Anwerbung und Führung der Agenten meist von Unterabteilungen der jeweiligen nationalen Geheimdienste übernommen. Die militärische Befehlsgewalt hatten die geheimen Kommandostellen Allied Clandestine Committee und Clandestine Planning Committee im NATO-Hauptquartier SHAPE im belgischen Mons. Die italienische Geheimarmee Gladio soll die Regierungsteilnahme der KPI zu verhindern versucht haben. Dazu soll sie mit SISMI-Mitgliedern und Neofaschisten zwischen 1969 und 1985 viele Terroranschläge verübt haben. Dies soll Höhepunkt der in den 1950er Jahren begonnenen verdeckten Operation Demagnetize der CIA gewesen sein. 1990 wurde auch eine Verbindung zu der Geheimloge Propaganda Due (P2) vermutet. Behörden verfolgten und diffamierten linksradikale Personen und Gruppen als Verantwortliche, indem Beweismittel gefälscht wurden. Die Empörung der Öffentlichkeit darüber sollte die in Italien traditionell starke Kommunistische Partei schwächen. Gladio wird Mitwirkung an vier Bombenexplosionen in Mailand und Rom, darunter dem Bombenanschlag auf der Piazza Fontana (17 Tote) im Dezember 1969 und dem Anschlag von Bologna 1980 (85 Tote) nachgesagt (Quelle: Wikipedia). In some countries the recruiting and leading of the agents was mostly done by subdivisions of the National secret service. The military authority was held by the commando Allied Clandestine Committee and Clandestine Planning Committee on the NATO headquarter SHAPE in Mons, Belgium. The Italian secret army Gladio is alleged to hinder the government participation of the KPI. Therefore they are alleged to have attempted several terror attacks together with SISMI members and neofascists between 1969 and 1985. That ought to be the peak of the – beginning in the 1950s – secret operations Demagnetize of the CIA. 1990 a link to the secret lodge Propaganda Due (P2) was assumed. Authorities followed and defamed radical left-wing people and groups as responsible, through faking evidence. The disgust in public life was lowered by the traditionally strong communist party in Italy. Operazione Gladio è il nome in codice di un’operazione promossa dalla Central Intelligence Agency, i servizi segreti civili degli Stati Uniti, e dalla NATO, per costituire varie strutture paramilitari segrete di tipo stay-behind („stare dietro“, „stare al di là delle linee“), promossa durante la guerra fredda, per contrastare un eventuale attacco delle forze del Patto di Varsavia ai Paesi dell’Europa occidentale, nonché combattere il comunismo con forme di guerra psicologica e uso della tecnica di false flag (fonte: Wikipedia).
