Die Herbst-Mosaikjungfer, Aeshna mixta Latreille 1805, hat ihren deutschen Namen aufgrund ihrer späten Flugzeit im Jahr. Der lateinische Name leitet sich von den zusammengewürfelten Farben des Tieres ab. Diese Libelle ist euro-asiatisch verbreitet und kommt über Russland (Sibirien – Kosterin & al. 2001) und China bis Japan vor. Sie wird von Schröter (2010) auch aus Kirgisistan aus 1.500 – 2.200 Meter gemeldet. Funde von den Italienischen Inseln (Corso & al. 2012) und aus Nordafrika sind ebenfalls bekannt. Sie bevorzugen vegetationsreiche Stillgewässer mit breiter Verlandungszone, die Larven tolerieren Brackwasser. In der Gattung ist sie die kleinste Art. Auf der Körperoberseite befindet sich eine helle "T"-förmige Zeichnung. Nach Conci & Nielsen (1956) überwintert die Art im Eistadium.
