(from Boudot & al. 2009:197): it is a common and widespread Afrotropical species, which extends north up to the Ebro delta in Spain and to the middle East. A recent record from Fuertoventura has been included. Records from Turkey have never been confirmed and are considered as doubtful. Populations from southern Iraq and Kuwait have been ascribed to a poorly differentiated ssp O. t. igarashii Asahina 1973, of which the taxonomic status needs clarification.

Langer Blaupfeil, Orthetrum trinacria (Selys 1841): er hat seine Verbreitung ursprünglich (1) in Afrika und Kleinasien; die Art expandiert innerhalb Europas und hat die Mittelmeerinseln Malta, Sizilien, Sardinien, Korsika, Zypern und den südwestlichen Teil Spaniens erreicht. Beim Männchen ist das Abdomen lang und schmal. Beim Weibchen sind die ersten drei Hinterleibssegmente verdickt. Das Flügelmal ist lang. Die Art lebt an stehenden Gewässern.
(1) Erwähnenswert zur Expansionstheorie: Die Art wurde von Edmond de Selys Longchamps 1841 anhand eines Exemplars im Turiner Museum aus Sizilien beschrieben.
