     (from Boudot & al. 2009:67): it is endemic to the Tyrrhenian Islands, Sicily and the Maltese Islands. Old records from the oasis of Trahgen in Libia have been checked and found to pertain.Specimens from northern Libia, also, most probably refer to I. saharensis


Rambur (1842) beschrieb zu Ehren des Entdeckers Professor Gené (1800 – 1847), der jahrelang auf Sardinien forschte, eine Jungfer, deren Verbreitungsgebiet auf Korsika, Sardinien, Sizilien, Malta und die Inseln des toskanischen Archipels beschränkt ist. Sie wird auch als Insel-Pechlibelle bezeichnet; ihr wissenschaftlicher Name ist Ischnura genei. – Zu den verschiedenen Farbvariationen siehe Forum Natura Mediterraneo.

Die Art ist kleiner als die weit verbreitete Schwesterart, Ischnura elegans; Sie bewohnt Fliessgewässer aber auch Teiche, die nicht verwachsen sind. Die Tiere sind anspruchslos und im Gebiet ihres Vorkommens nicht gefährdet. Die Tiere fliegen in der Zeit von April bis September.
