     (from Boudot & al. 2009:172): Crocothemis sanguinolenta is a widespread African species, that reaches into the Arabian Peninsula and has relict populations in the Levant. A former record from Libya has been shown to pertain in fact to C. e. erythraea.


Die Blutrote Libelle, Crocothemis sanguinolenta (Burmeister 1839), ist in Afrika und auf der arabischen Halbinsel verbreitet, allerdings fehlt sie in Nordafrika. Bei Monnerat (2010) finden sich sehr gute Informationen über das Vorkommen in Jordanien. Schneider (2004) skizziert sehr gut die Probleme rund um die Wassernutzung in der Levante, die zum Aussterben und der Gefährdung zahlreicher Arten führten und führen, darunter auch die hier vorgestellte.
