(from Boudot & al. 2009:212): Sympetrum sanguineum is a common species in most parts of Europe, showing a very scattered distribution in the Maghreb.

Die Blutrote Heidelibelle, Sympetrum sanguineum (O.F. Müller 1764), ist eine weit verbreitete Libellenart, die vor allem Stillgewässer oder langsam fliessende Gewässer bewohnt. Die Art ist von Nordafrika über Süd- und südliches Nordeuropa bis Sibirien (Kosterin & al. 2001) verbreitet. Schröter (2010) meldet die Art aus Kirgisistan.
