     (from Boudot & al. 2009:183): Libellula quadrimaculata is a very common species in Eurasia. In Sicily it was found only in the 19th century, which probably refers to a single record and may be erroneous. In Africa the species is known with certainty only from Marocco.

Der Vierfleck, Libellula quadrimaculata Linnaeus 1758, ist holarktisch verbreitet (Nordafrika (Marokko), Eurasien, Nordamerika (Kanada, Alaska)) und kommt hin und wieder in Massen vor. Die Art ist ein intensiver Wanderer und kann in riesigen Schwärmen auftauchen, demgemäss stellt die Art keine besonderen Ansprüche an ihren Lebensraum. In Kirgisistan kommt die Art bis 2.500 Meter vor (Schröter 2010). In Sibirien werden öfters Kopulationen zwischen [Männchen] von E. bimaculata mit Weibchen von Libellula quadrimaculata beobachtet (Kosterin & al. 2001).
