(from Boudot & al. 2009:191): it is a widespread Afrotropical species, extending north up to the Ebro delta in Spain and to the south of Anatolia. Its larva is able to survive in moist sand of wadis, enabling the species to occur troughout the Saharan belt.
Der Rahmstreif-Blaupfeil, Orthetrum chrysostigma (Burmeister 1839), kommt im tropischen Afrika, nordwärts bis zu den Kanaren, Südspanien, Malta (Corso & al. 2012), Kreta, Zypern und Südanatolien, ostwärts nach Schneider & Nasher (2013) bis in den Südjemen vor. Feulner & al. (2007) melden die Art als häufig in den bergigen Wadis in Arabien. 2014 wird die Art auch aus Sizilien gemeldet (teste Maurizio Pavesi). Die Larven sind anspruchslos und können in trocken gefallenen Gewässern und feuchtem Sand überleben.
