Gemeine Heidelibelle

Clemens M. Brandstetter (Text)

(from Boudot & al. 2009:215): Records of Sympetrum vulgatum in Pantelleria, Sardinia, Sicily and satellite islands date from 19th century and originate from unreliable sources. Iberian populations and several populations in the French eastern Pyrenees pertain to the subspecies S. v. ibericum Ocharan, 1985. Specimens collected in the Spanish Alta Cerdanya have been reported to be larger than typical S. v. ibericum, but have the same colour features and refer to true S. v. ibericum. Two records from the Valencia province, without indications of a subspecies rank, fall out of the known range of the species is known. A third subspecies S. v. decoloratum Selys, 1884 replaces the nominal subspecies in Asia Minor.
