     (from Boudot & al. 2009:157): Cordulia aenea is common in the temperate parts of Europe but becomes scarce towards the Mediterranean. Two old records from Maghreb have never been confirmed.

Die Falkenlibelle, Cordulia aenea (Linnaeus 1758), ist eurosibirisch verbreitet und erreicht im Osten Sibirien (Kosterin & al. 2001), Kirgisistan (Schröter 2010)  und Japan. Im Süden Europas kommt die Art von der französischen Atlantikküste über Italien und dem Balkan bis Kleinasien vor. Als Lebensraum bevorzugt die Falkenlibelle kleinere und grössere stehende Gewässer mit krautiger Ufervegetation. Die Weibchen kommen nur zur Eiablage ans Wasser.
